Ashley Barber

Founder | Producer

A native of Panamá, Ashley was raised in a military family and grew up in Bozeman, Montana. After he graduated high school, he joined the U.S. Army and spent six years serving as an engineer and working at several military bases both in the U.S. and abroad.  After his enlistment he went on to study at the University of Montana in Missoula and majored in music composition. Following a successful music internship in L.A., under the mentorship of film composer Jonathan Elias, he realized that he had a passion for both the creative and business aspects of the industry and decided to change his major to Film; with the intention of becoming a producer.

During his last year at the University of Montana, Ashley produced and directed "Bathroom Panic," a documentary about the struggle for gay rights in small-town rural America. The documentary introduced him to a liberal Congressman and ultimately led to a job as a communications director for his election campaign in the U.S. House of Representatives. As communications director, Ashley had the opportunity to direct and produce the candidate's statewide campaign commercial, which went on to receive nationwide recognition for featuring a gay wedding ceremony. In 2012, after the Congressional campaign, Ashley graduated from the University of Montana and shortly thereafter moved to Los Angeles to pursue production.

Ashley's first job in Los Angeles was working for the very successful TV executive and highly recognizable syndicator and producer, Michael King; KingWorld Productions (Oprah, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Hollywood Squares, Etc). He then moved on to work as an associate producer for the award winning web-series "Front Seat Chronicles." After production wrapped on the 4th season of that series, Ashley started work as an assistant to celebrity judge/singer/choreographer Paula Abdul. While working for her, his highest achievement was helping organize the Avon foundation's viral "Check Yourself" breast cancer awareness video starring Paula.

Having the experience in working for both a high net-worth family and a celebrity, Ashley was brought into a position at Lifeboat Productions as a producer's assistant. There he was able to work for the two principles of the company who both specialized in development and packaging as well as line and physical production. In the two years he was at the indie production company, he helped coordinate multiple tv and film projects, starting from development and pre-produciton, film finance/accounting, assisting on set, coordinating clearances and legal, to aiding in post-production and delivery.

Ashley has worked in project cunjuction with such companies and studios as: Warner Brothers, ABC, Sony Pictures, Nickelodeon, FullScreen, Awesomeness/Awestruck and the Audience Network.

He currently works at Nickelodeon Animation in production and also produces original content for the development arm of his company, Barbershop Media Entertainment.
